Career Situation In India
The major problem that is faced by Indian Youth nowadays is Unemployment and Underemployment. Many of you would have heard of the unemployment issues in India, where a majority of the qualified population in India is jobless. Now how many of you have heard about the underemployment issue in India, a vast number of qualified individuals that are taking up jobs that are below their technical qualification.
Reasons For Unemployment And Underemployment
There are many reasons for both unemployment and underemployment in India, the rapid growth in population, the limited number of industries, and it is also caused due to lack of career options.
- The tremendous increase in population has led to a tough competition among the youth to secure a good job. The number of qualified youth did grow rapidly in the last twenty years. The number of new colleges and other educational institutions that got developed recently in India, in turn, lead to an increase in the number of qualified youth. Therefore our country is now facing the issue of overpopulation of qualified individuals.
- India is also facing the issue of lack of industries. The number of industries in India is not enough to accommodate the entire qualified population of India. The lack of opportunities has played a crucial role in the increase in unemployment and underemployment.
- Even though there are many factors that lead to this current situation in India, one major fault from the people side is the main reason. The lack of career options or if put it correctly the lack of awareness of career options has played a major role here. There was a time when every parent wanted their child to be a doctor or an engineer. It's funny that a parent will always ask this "you want to become a doctor or engineer?", you can see the limited career options in the question itself.
- Each and every person is different, their mannerism is different, their looks are different, their IQ different and talents different, then why their profession should not be different. A vast number of people who are qualified in a particular department do not find a secure job because they have no adequate talent in that department. Every person should build up their career based on their talent and skills instead of their family wishes.
Expectations vs. Reality
- "Disappointment" a very long word but a very common emotion faced by the majority of qualified and talented youth of our country.
- The dreams of a high salary and a well-settled job are shattered along somewhere in the way during long the job hunt process. We settle for a job that is below our expectations at last.
